FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Drivers traveling Interstate 95 through Stafford County and the Fredericksburg area should prepare for overnight lane closures this week as transportation crews continue several highway projects.
The scheduled work affects multiple sections of the busy I-95 corridor and could create delays for nighttime travelers.
Among the affected areas is southbound I-95 near Exit 143 at Aquia and Garrisonville, where crews are conducting pavement-marking work.
Motorists may also encounter alternating closures between Exit 133 and Exit 130 as bridge maintenance continues around the Rappahannock River.
Farther south, construction activity is affecting traffic around Exit 126 in Spotsylvania County.
Most of the work is scheduled during overnight hours, allowing lanes to reopen before the morning commuting period, although schedules can change because of weather or construction conditions.
Drivers should also remain alert for work along Route 1 and other roads connected to ongoing transportation improvements.
The Fredericksburg region remains one of the most heavily traveled sections of Interstate 95 in Virginia, particularly during commuting periods and major weekend travel days.
Motorists should allow additional travel time, watch for changing traffic patterns and reduce speeds when entering construction zones.
